The Rehabilitation
Recruitment Center (RRC) is a listing service for job openings and internships
in public rehabilitation programs in the United States and its Territories.
The "public rehabilitation program is defined as (1) state VR agencies, (2)
grantees of RSA and (3) any rehabilitation organization with a service agreement
(does business with) a state VR agency.
Students in search
of an internship in a rehabilitation setting are encouraged to use the site.
Twenty rehabilitation careers and 39 rehabilitation occupation areas are listed.
Job seekers may
search by specialization area, location, agency, and position title. Search
results include job description, location, requirements, and application information.
In addition some agencies have provided electronic "brochures" and links to
their agency and state web sites.
A resume posting
service is also available. The user develops an on-line resume by filling
out a form on-line which employers can search. Job seekers who cannot use
forms may submit their resume by E-mail. Only RRC registered employers have
the web address for the resumes.
Employers who may
post job openings include state VR agencies, university rehabilitatation education
programs receiving funds from the Rehabilitation Services Administration in
the U.S. Department of Education and any rehabilitation service provider with
a service agreement with a state vocational rehabilitation program. Funding
is provided by RSA to develop and maintain the RRC system. Subscriptions from
community rehabilitation programs, independent living and other programs are
available at low cost.
The RRC is hosted
by the National Clearinghouses of Rehabilitation Training Materials (NCRTM)
through a grant supplement from the Rehabilitation Services Administration.
Clearinghouse staff are continuing to work with state agencies to bring all
of them on board. As the system demonstrates its effectiveness, more employers
will find it a valuable recruitment tool.

*In May EEOC filed suits against a labor union in the U.S. District Court,
District of Hawaii. The Suite alleges that the United Public Workers, AFSCME,
Local 646, unlawfully discriminated against two members, both of whom have
hearing impairments, by not providing sign language interpreters at union
membership meetings. The suit also claims that the union retaliated against
one of the members after he filed a charge of discrimination with the EEOC.
Further it seeks appropriate
injunctive relief to end discrimination by the union and compensatory and
punitive damages.

co-sponsored by The National Association of ADA Coordinators and local sponsors.

*The EEOC has issued guidelines to help determine if an employer has required
number of employees to fall under the requirements (15 employees) of the ADA.
Some employers have claimed that they employ less or argue that certain workers
are not employees. The guidance provides directions on interpreting such employer
claims and analyzes a January Supreme Court decision, EEOC & Walters Metropolitan
Educational Enterprises, Inc.. The Supreme Court decision stated that a company
payroll is the proper test for counting employees.

Job Accommodation Network (JAN)
A toll-free service
of the President's Committee, provides technical assistance to employers and
employees with disabilities on making job accommodations at the workplace.
JAN also provides information on the employment provisions of the Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA). In addition to these services the new grant calls
for the development of a searchable electronic database of disability-specific

New Internet Health Care
Directory Offers Free Information on More Than 100,000 Resources
